Prague Castle
The Story
Founded in the late 9th century by Prince Bořivoj, Prague Castle became the political and spiritual center of the Bohemian kingdom. It grew with each dynasty — Přemyslids, Habsburgs, and eventually the Czechoslovak state — each layering their ambitions onto its stones. During World War II it served as the seat of the Nazi Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Today it is the official residence of the Czech president, making it one of the few ancient castles still actively governing a nation.
