The Story Was Always Mine

The Door Of Return

I walked through the Door of Return at Cape Coast Castle in Ghana.
My DNA traces to Ireland, where my ancestors may have stood at the Hill of Tara.
Edinburgh Castle called to me when I was just eight years old and now I know I have a Scottish lineage.

These aren’t just destinations, they are chapters in a story that was always mine to tell.

For some, castles are history.
For me, they are memory — some lived, some inherited, some waiting.

There is something surreal about standing in places that exist on both ends of your lineage.
One rooted in royalty, mythology, and legacy. The other marked by displacement, resilience, and survival.

And somehow… I exist in the middle of both.

Castle Hunting is not about checking locations off a list. It’s about reclaiming narrative.

This is what happens when you stop traveling like a tourist and start moving like a storyteller.
